NEW ACCESS TO PI‘ILANI HIGHWAY UNDERWAY
Construction at LĪPOA continues to move forward on schedule, with the first homes still on track for completion by the end of this year. Most of the large-scale grading has been completed, key drainage systems are now in place, and work is moving forward to expand the area’s roadway infrastructure. A key part of this effort is the extension of Ho‘okena Street – the road just outside Park Plaza – which is being built to connect directly to Pi‘ilani Highway.
The extension will add nearly a mile of new roadway, complete with wide sidewalks along the full stretch. Once complete, this new access point will help ease traffic flow in and out of LĪPOA, especially during peak travel times.
The new connection at Pi‘ilani Highway will operate as a right-in, right-out intersection only:
- Vehicles entering LĪPOA from Pi‘ilani Highway will make a right turn in
- Vehicles exiting LĪPOA onto Pi‘ilani
Highway will make a right turn out Construction of this new roadway along Pi‘ilani Highway is continuing to make progress with night work scheduled through April. During this time, lane closures will be limited to overnight hours (8pm to 5am), with one Kahului-bound lane closed to maintain a safe work zone for crews. The full opening of the Ho‘okena Street connection will depend on the completion of the adjacent residential neighborhood and final approvals from both the State and County.
In the meantime, opening Ho‘okena Street as an exit-only connection is currently targeted by the end of the year. LĪPOA’s primary access point will remain the intersection at Līpoa Parkway and Pi‘ilani Highway. Improvements to this main intersection are planned for 2027.
